Before its merge with the Exxon Corporation, the Humble Oil and Refining Company made its home in the city. Petroleum production in the area is shallow, encircling the city by approximately a 2.5-mile radius, yet the Humble oil fields are responsible for producing more than 138,835,590 barrels of oil. Even though the oil boom receded, many land owners in Humble returned to truck farming, dairy farming, and the timber industry.
